Antenova has seen the fourth largest supplier of mobile phones Sony Ericsson license its multi-band antenna technology for use in handsets.

Cambridge-based Antenova’s patented high dielectric antenna (HDAs) support frequency bands for GSM, UMTS, EGSM and CDMA.

“The licensing of Antenova’s HDA technology expands the selection of innovative antenna technologies that can be used in our products,” said Gerard Hayes from the technology and research group at Sony Ericsson.

Last week, Sony Ericsson highlighted continuing weak demand in the handset market and warned that Q1 loss could be as high as €390m.

According to Greg McCray, CEO of Antenova: “This licensing agreement with Sony Ericsson demonstrates our commitment to providing industry leading antenna technologies.”

Antenova sells antenna modules and licenses RF design IP. Its technologies include HDA, Datanova multi-band mobile broadband and giganova standard antennas.
