MP3 player design firm opens way for wireless devices with Bluetooth and WiFi technology from CSR. The first wireless MP3 players will be in the shops by the end of the year.

Telechips has introduced a software development kit for MP3 players and mobile TV devices which features CSR's BlueCore4-ROM for Bluetooth and UniFi-1 Portable for WiFi technologies.

The technology will allow MP3 players to wirelessly connect to stereo Bluetooth headphones, and UniFi will allow connection to access points for downloading music or video files, or to a PC for file transfer.

Tracy Hopkins, v-p of CSR’s consumer business unit, said: “Telechips has a strong working relationship with many of the top MP3 and PMP manufacturers in the world, so expect to see wireless-enabled PMPs courtesy of Telechips and CSR on the shelves within the next six months.”

The Telechips design runs on both of the most common operating systems for multimedia players, Windows CE, MicroC/OS-II and Nucleus. Its customers include Samsung, Philips, Sony and Sandisk.

“Wireless connectivity is widely demanded among customers and end- users. So, many companies have focused on multimedia solutions with wireless connectivity,” said Min-ho Seo, CEO and President of Telechips.
