Robotic cat purrs for Japan firm
Melanie Reynolds A robotic pet cat called Tama is one of the unexpected results of man-machine interface research by Japanese firm Omron. Tama reacts to the way it is treated and develops its own personality using artificial intelligence (AI) and fuzzy logic techniques. If it is ill-treated, Tama turns nasty, snarling and spitting. Providing it with tender loving care results in purring and tail-wagging. Sensors
in the cat's body sense how it is being treated and the information is acted upon by Omron's MAC (mind and consciousness) models which use AI and fuzzy logic techniques.
