Avago Technologies has introduced what it claims is the first travelling wave amplifier (TWA) for digital comms operating from 30kHz to 80GHz.

The AMMC-5025 provides 8dB of small signal gain flat to +/-0.7dB, plus better than -10dB input and -15dB output return loss.

Applications are foreseen in test and measurement, radar warning receivers, wideband communications, surveillance, and point-to-point radios.

The amplifier has a gain slope control and an adjustable gain control that allows over 25dB of dynamic range.

Die size is 1.6x1.0mm and there is a 50 ohm match on the input and output, as well as ESD protection.

Samples and production quantities are available now.
