Arc International has extended its licensing agreements with medical device firm Boston Scientific.

Boston Scientific will use the new semiconductor IP in very low power implantable device for cardiac rhythm management applications.

“The semiconductor industry is beginning to make a significant contribution to the growing medical device industry,” said Sean Redmond, v-p of worldwide field operations at Arc International.

According to the company, “ongoing improvements in the safety and effectiveness of electronic medical products will promote the growth of implantable devices.”

It predicts that the demand for implantable medical devices will grow close to 10% annually to $40bn in 2011.
