UK Firms Triumph in Queen’s Awards Steve Bush
Electronics companies have featured well among this year's 133 Queen's Awards for Enterprise winners.
BBC Research & Development and LSI Logic received an innovation award for the jointly developed L64780 single-chip digital terrestrial television receiver. Under the collaboration, the BBC provided the intellectual property while LSI Logic designed the chip.
"We are delighted that the commercial success and technological innovation of our partnership with LSI Logic has been recognised with such a prestigious award," said Dr Peter Bury.
Innovision Research & Technology got an innovation award for its DataLabel battery-less RF read-write tag technology.
"Winning the Queen's Award for Industry for Innovation is a tremendous boost for us," said Marc Borrett, co-founder of Innovision. "The initial industry response to the product has been extremely enthusiastic.”
Ely-based Melles Griot got an innovation award for its modular optical fibre aligning tool. "I am delighted for all my staff that we have been recognised in this way," said managing director, Norman Pratt.
Buckingham Palace announced 76 International Trade Awards, 42 for Innovation and 15 for the new category of Sustainable Development.
Winners range from businesses of two to 20,000 staff. 32 per cent of this year's winners employ less than 50 people.
