London-based
fabless chip firm Frontier Silicon has closed an investment of
"several million pounds" from Nokia Venture Partners.
"This is an
important step for us, and we are extremely pleased to have Nokia
Venture Partners as an investor," said Frontier's CEO Anthony
Sethill.
Frontier's ICs are
aimed at digital TV, digital radio and consumer multimedia
markets.
"With more and
more countries adopting digital broadcasting technologies, we see
excellent prospects for the company [Frontier] in other digital
multimedia segments beyond DAB," said Antti Kokkinen, general
partner at Nokia Venture Partners.
The funding, said
Frontier, will indeed go towards developing DAB and digital TV
products, as well as strengthening its development team.
Frontier Silicon
was established in 2001, and is privately funded. Shareholders
include Apax Partners, Alta Berkeley and UK intellectual property
supplier Imagination Technologies, as well as DAB network operator
Digital One.
Nokia Venture
Partners is based in Menlo Park, California.
