Loughborough University has developed a Web-based resource to help firms come to grips with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive.
The software, called SortED, aims to show businesses how to navigate the legislation, which requires companies who manufacture, resell or import equipment to take responsibility for part of the waste.
Developed by Dr Tracy Bhamra and Dr Vicky Lofthouse from the Department of Design and Technology at Loughborough, the tool is aimed at design teams and managers; managing directors; health and safety managers; environmental consultants; and anyone wishing to find out more about the WEEE directive.
SortEd guides users through stages to identify targets set by WEEE, along with case studies for the ten categories within the legislation. There are also numerous links to additional sources of expert help, said Loughborough.
