Imagination Technologies has confirmed a license agreement with "a major international consumer electronics company".
The company has not confirmed the name of the new licensee, but did say the deal opens up a "new" consumer market for its PowerVR SGX graphics processor.
With UK-based Imagination already seeing its PowerVR graphics processors designed into mobile phones and MP3 players, the most likely "new" consumer application is a games console and Sony is being seen as the most likely name of the new licensee.
Sony is probably on the look-out for a 3D graphics processor for its next generation PSP handheld games console, and it is possible that the PowerVR SGX55x processor fits the bill.
This comes hot on the heels of a multi-year, multi-use licence agreement announced in September with an unnamed consumer firm, commonly assumed to be Apple.

Under the terms of its licensing arrangements Imagination receives license fees, and royalty revenues on shipment of SoCs incorporating Imagination's IP.
