Linear Technology has taken a licence for Power-One’s digital power technology.

The deal marks an interesting move for analogue semconductor supplier, Linear Technology in the area of digitally controlled power systems. Digital control is seen as the best way to improve the energy-efficiency of power systems in a range of products - from mobile phones to Internet servers.

The Z-One digital power technology is used in a range of point-of-load (POL) DC-DC converters.

“Linear Technology is a leading manufacturer of high performance analog integrated circuits and Power-One is pleased to license its Z-One technology for incorporation into their products,” said Richard Thompson, president and CEO of Power-One.

The license does not extend to stand-alone power supplies using Linear Technology products.
