Birmingham-based home automation firm JSJS Designs has reported a maiden first quarter profit for 2012.
The firm's products moved from development to market phase in Q1 of the new financial year, during which profit before tax was £71,622 on revenues of £678,979.
This was described as "a period of low margin due to relationship building", and the figures include receipt of the first licence fee order worth £300,000 from Electrium Sales.
In Q1 2011, profit was £151,522 on £1,583,475.
"Given that this is our first full quarter with a product range to sell rather than just market, our profitability status is a strong result," said chairman and CEO Mike Lord. "The Company has invested significantly in developing distribution channels in the period under review with an electrical wholesale sales team now established and expected to deliver further sales throughout Q2."
Q1 saw the launch of the firm's products in B&Q stores, both under the Siemens brand and JSJS' own LightwaveRF brand.
"The company is now able to establish a new customer pipeline and a base of regular ordering, which it hopes will deliver further positive results later in the financial year," said Lord.
JSJS's products communicate through a proprietary ' LightwaveRF' low bit rate RF wireless protocol, at 433 or 866MHz depending on market.
Designed in the UK and made in China, products include wall sockets and wall light switches that replace conventional sockets and switches - with no modifications to household wiring, as well as compact fluorescent light bulbs with the wireless interface built in.
Control is from custom remote controls, or smartphones running compatible apps.
A central box pulls the links together, with 'LightwaveRF' to link with the control nodes, Wi-Fi for phones, and an Ethernet connection to the household broadband modem for Internet access - the system relies on Internet access for many of its functions.
There are phone apps for over-Web remote control, and schedules for future actions can be stored.
Rather than system intelligence residing in the central box, it is cloud-based on remote servers.
Server access is free to the consumer, but third-party equipment suppliers must pay on behalf of their customers.
"The Company expects to announce later this financial year further product launches within the electrical, lighting, heating, plumbing and eco sectors, supported by further development of JSJS' iPhone, Android and web applications, which enable consumers to control their JSJS household applications anywhere and at any time," said the firm.
