Research into chip and test technologies for 4G mobile technology is the focus of a €6m project in Denmark involving Aalborg University, Infineon Technologies and Agilent Technologies.

As part of the project, Agilent will establish an R&D activity for LTE mobile test methods in Aalborg, Denmark.

“This new project, will strengthen the research capacity, expand job opportunities for engineers in the region and potentially attract other international companies to settle in Aalborg, paving the way to take the lead in 4G," said Professor Preben Mogensen at Aalborg University.

"It was possible to begin development of 4G technologies in Aalborg, but it is very expensive. On its own, Aalborg University would have had difficulty establishing an activity of this scale in 4G research and competence development,” said Mogensen.

The Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation is backing the research project.

Agilent Technologies will staff a new research and development team in Aalborg to work on advanced aspects of 4G test.

“We are very motivated to work with Aalborg University and Infineon Technologies’ on this project. This new R&D effort offers broad possibilities for contribution and will have significant impact on delivering on the promise of 4G technology”, said Steve Newton, vice president and director of Agilent Technologies’ Measurement Research Laboratory.
