Motorola has unveiled a WiMAX chipset modem at WiMAX World USA this week, which will support the roll-out of 4G mobile devices.

Designed to be used in both 3G and 4G mobile devices, the chipset modem is scheduled to debut in Motorola’s range of WiMAX mobile devices beginning in 2008 for various carriers around the world, including Sprint’s Xohm business unit.

According to Gary Koerper, v-p of platform planning and systems architecture at Motorola: “With this chipset, Motorola has been able to redefine what is possible for WiMAX mobile devices, enabling a wider portfolio of devices, from voice-centric handsets to multimedia terminals.”

The modem is designed for WiMAX 802.16e Wave 1.0 and 2.0 compliance, supporting advanced MIMO matrix A and B antenna configurations.
