Fujitsu licenses Cortex-A15 for ASSPs - Embedded World

Monday 28 February 2011 12:05

Fujitsu Semiconductor has expanded its processor licence with ARM to include the Cortex-A15 processor, Mali graphics and CoreLink systems IP.

Already an established ARM licensee, Fujitsu introduced its launched its FM3 family of Cortex-M3 processor based MCUs last November.

This new agreement significantly extends this to include the recently launched Cortex-A15 processor, graphics and fabric IP, which will form the basis of new system-on-chip devices.

"This will allow our customers to select the ARM technology most suited for their application, and use a platform that combines it with other IP provided by us," said corporate senior v-p Haruyoshi Yagi of Fujitsu Semiconductor.

Fujitsu is already providing the new IP to ASIC customers and the development of the first application specific standard parts is for the second half of 2011.

ARM also announced support for the Freescale i.MX53 family of multimedia applications processors in the

ARM Development Studio 5 (DS-5) and the DSTREAM target connection unit.

The i.MX535 is a 1GHz Cortex-A8 processor-based consumer multimedia applications processor family.

The i.MX535 is the first i.MX processor to support 1080p multi-standard video playback.

DS-5 supports code generation, board bring up, and Linux kernel, driver and application development on a range of ARM processor-based devices.
