Freescale Losses Narrow As Re-Structuring Declines

Total 2009 sales for Freescale fell 33% to $3.5bn from $5.2bn in 2008. Q409 sales improved on Q3's $893m to reach for a net loss of $114m.

Q4 re-structuring costs, mainly to reflect the closure of the Toulouse plant, were $148m. The Q4 gross profit margin was 33%, an improvement on the 28% of Q3. Cash at the end of 2009 totalled $1.36bn.

In the last 15 months, Freescale has cut over 4,000 jobs at sites across the world.

Looking at Freescale's various product sectors:

Microcontroller net sales were $333m in Q409 compared to $294m million in Q3 and $306m in Q408.

RF, analogue and sensor net sales were $221m in Q409 compared to $208m in Q3 and $232m in Q408.

Networking and Multimedia net sales were $251m in Q409 million in the fourth quarter of 2009, compared to $234m in Q3 and $273m in Q408.

Cellular net sales were $116m in Q409 compared to $122m in Q3 and $64m in Q408.

Other net sales were $30m in Q409compared to $35m in Q3 and $65m in Q408.

"Our strong financial position, leadership in embedded processing across our core networking and automotive businesses, and significant opportunities in consumer and industrial segments, provide a diversified foundation for growth in 2010," said CEO Rich Beyer.
