Future Electronics has made a long term commitment to the European electronics market with plans for a new €40m distribution centre in Leipzig, Germany.
Robert Miller, founder and president of Future Electronics, the third largest component distributor, was in the UK last week to talk to customers and suppliers to tell them of the company’s plans for Europe.
He was also marking the anniversary of Future’s 20 years operating in Europe.
Miller then went on to highlight the importance of the LED lighting market. He sees this as one of the industry’s fastest growing markets, which is growing at around 38% per annum.
The broadline distributor, which has its European HQ in Surrey, UK, addresses the lighting market through a dedicated business unit, called Future Lighting Solutions.
“This will be a billion dollar business in two to three years,” said Miller.
The 15,000 square metre European distribution centre in Leipzig is expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2010. It will be the source of components for all of Europe and the Middle East.
Future said it will be able to store over 66,000 different products at the new centre and will be able to service over 4,000 orders a day.
The planning and implementation of the warehouse logistics will be carried out by German operator Witron Logistik + Informatik GmbH.
