"Technology is central to virtually every major sector in the global economy," Brian Krause, vice president at Molex told Electronics Weekly.
"Traditionally separate markets, such as consumer electronics, data products and telecommunications, are converging, resulting in single devices offering broad-based functionality.
"High-density, micro-miniature technologies are expanding to markets such as data and mobile phones, leading to smaller devices and greater mobility.
"And, consumer expectations are at an all time high for advanced product features, content, convenience and constant connectivity.
"Suppliers have been developing connector solutions for a number of markets.
"For example orthogonal design backplane and mid-plane connectors and cable systems capable of data rates of up to 25Mbit/s channel speed to meet demands of next-generation telecom and data networking equipment.
"Whilst HDMI Type-A connectors and cable assemblies deliver the highest quality, high-definition content by providing an uncompressed digital connection from any audio/video source to an audio and/or video monitor over a single cable.
"These and other electronic innovations are already helping design engineers clear technological hurdles so OEMs can bring products to market faster.
