Redditch firm wins Queen's Award for innovation with railway black boxAlex Mayhew-Smith
Arrowvale Electronics has won the Queen's Award to Industry for Innovation for its black box intended for the rail industry.
The Redditch company's on-train monitoring recorder (OTMR) records the speed of a train, application of brakes, operation of door controls, and monitors safety equipment such as ATP (Automatic Train Protection), AWS (Automatic Warning System), and TPWS (Train Warning Protection System).
The firm's managing director Mike Thompson said: "The OTMR cannot stop rail accidents happening but now we hope it can provide invaluable insights into how and why these accidents have happened."
Other Queen's Awards to companies in the electronics industry went to Photonic Products, TTPCom, Crystalox, Perkinelmer's optoelectronics division, Oxford Instruments, Ultra Electronics, BAE Systems, Precision Antennas and RFX.
