Tektronix is on the acquisition trail as it looks to expand its product ranges in the areas of RF, video and benchtop test.

“We are looking to expand the portfolio,” Dave Ireland, European marketing manager at Tektronix told EW.

“There will be acquisitions as well as organic growth,” said Ireland.

According to Ireland, there is a plan to expand the test firm’s established benchtop instrument business including new scopes, analysers and signal generators.

New products will come from in-house developments and from acquisitions, says Ireland.

This week Tektronix has completed the acquisition of SyntheSys Research, a California-based company manufacturing high-speed signal integrity test and measurement instrumentation for the storage and communications markets.

The important technology is the company’s BERTScope signal integrity system.

“The combination of SyntheSys and Tektronix accelerates our ability to provide leading full product solutions for both transmitter and receiver high-speed serial test,” said Brian Reich, general manager of performance oscilloscopes at Tektronix.

Last year, Tektronix announced a technology collaboration with National Instruments.

Ireland described this as “a big opportunity” for the company, with joint sales and marketing opportunities.

NI and Tektronix are jointly developing a high-speed digitiser for the PXI modular test platform.

It is first joint hardware development project between the two companies and the intention is to create a PXI digitiser with a bandwidth greater than 3GHz and sample rate beyond 10GS/s. Data throughput will be more than 600Mbyte/s.

In October, Tektronix bought the test business from Sypris Solutions for $39m.

US-based Sypris Test & Measurement providing of calibration services, as well as testing and component sourcing services to markets which range from military/aerospace to the semiconductor industry.
