National has 5Gbit/s PCIe transceiver for backplanes

National Semiconductor's claims its latest PCI Express transceiver will significantly extend the range of high speed backplane connections.

"It compensates for transmission medium losses, reducing deterministic jitter on eight transmission channels. It equalizes more than 10 metres of PCIe cable or 40 inches of FR-4 printed circuit board (PCB) at transmission rates up to 5Gbit/s," said National.

The DS50PCI401 is PCI-SIG-approved to the PCI Express (PCIe) Gen1 (2.5Gbit/s) and Gen2 (5Gbit/s) specifications.

It is a four-lane, bidirectional PCIe transceiver with adjustable receive equalisation and transmit de-emphasis, which extends transmission distances at multi-gigabit data rates.

A companion chip, the DS64BR401 supports both 3Gbit/s and 6Gbit/s SATA/SAS specifications, along with other high-speed signalling standards such as XAUI, serial Rapid IO (sRIO) and Fibre Channel.

It equalises up to 10 metres of SATA/SAS cable or 40 inches of FR-4 printed circuit board (PCB) at transmission rates up to 6.4Gbit/s, with less than 0.25 UI of residual jitter at the equaliser output.
