MPs ask for views on state of engineering in the UK

Young engineers are being invited to offer views on the state of engineering in the UK to MPs via a new website forum.

The House of Commons Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Committee has launched the website to hear the views of anyone studying engineering, considering doing so, or who are working in engineering.

“We want to hear what young people think about engineering.  What is its image? Are careers in engineering attractive?  Why do many young engineers embark on a career outside engineering and what could be done to change this?” said Committee chairman, Phil Willis.

Views posted online will be used by the Committee to inform the recommendations it makes to the Government in its final report.

“This is your chance to influence our recommendations on how Government policy might best serve the engineering sector and we hope that as many prospective engineers and young engineers as possible will participate,” said Willis.

The forum will run until 9 December 2008.
