A group of four UK univesities are taking part in an EU-funded research project into molecular recognition at the atomic level.
The consortium of 10 participants includes the University of Nottingham (United Kingdom), Lunds Universitet (Sweden), The University of Reading (United Kingdom), University College London (United Kingdom), Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon (France) Aarhus Universitet (Denmark), Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (Spain), The University of Liverpool (United Kingdom), Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GMBH (Germany), Max Planck Gesellschaft zur Foerderung derWissenschaften E.V. (Germany),
Most recently, a Sweden-based nanotechnology investment company, European Nano Invest AB has been invited to participate in the three year EU-funded project which is trying to create surfaces for molecular recognition at the atomic level.
The project has a budget of €4m.
The European Commission has recognised that nano and microelectronics are “indispensable” for Europe’s technical and economic future.
But according to the UK-based National Microelectronics Institute (NMI) problems in skills pipeline and R&D investment must be addressed before benefits can be realised.
