European Semiconductor sales in October grew at 7.5% on September which wasfaster than the 5.1% growth of the worldwide market in October.

This is the consecutive sixth month of growth for the European market, says World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS).

The main product categories had strong growth rates, in particular microcontrollers, microprocessors, logic and discretes, says WSTS, the memory market was also positive, with particularly strong growth in DRAM.

Looking at application specific chips, sales for analogue devices designed for and used in computing and computer applications rose sharply in October, after three months of negative results.

Overall, European semiconductor sales in October 2009 amounted to US$ 2.813bn. This is a decline of 17.8% compared to October 2008.

On a YTD basis semiconductor sales declined by 28.4% in 2009 versus the same period in the year 2008.

Measured in Euro, semiconductor sales of €1,933bn in October 2009 were up 5.7% on the previous month and down 19.5% versus October 2008.

On a YTD basis semiconductor sales measured in Euro declined by 22.2% in 2009 versus the same period in the year 2008.

On a worldwide basis, semiconductor sales in October 2009 were $ 21.697bn, up 5.1% on September 2009, which represents positive growth for the eighth month in a row.

This results in a significantly lowered decline of 3.5% versus the same month in 2008 and on a YTD basis it results in a decline of 16.6%.
