Europe will be a catalyst for growth in 2012, says Mouser v-p

Friday 30 December 2011 11:08

We see the European market as a catalyst for growth next year, writes Mark Burr-Lonnon, Mouser Electronics’ vice-president of EMEA business

We’re especially pleased with the gains that Mouser has made in the UK and across Europe during 2011. It has been another very strong year despite a general slowing of most markets after Q1.

In addition to adding new staff members in our UK office, we opened four new European customer service centres in Stockholm, Eindhoven, Barcelona and Czech Republic, and we’ve just relocated our German branch to Munich and made this our European Marketing Centre.

We continue to believe that localised support is a key to growing our customer base. All of which is underscored by our commitment to serving design engineers and buyers with the highest level of personalised technical support and service.

We are there to seamlessly transact business and support customers – in their local language, currency and time zone – regardless of the size of the order. This is supported by the industry’s leading breadth of inventory, which optimizes the time-to-market advantage on new parts and technology.

Our market share continues to rise. Our 2011 sales in Europe are up 42% overall, far above the market growth where many will end the year flat and trending down.
These figures build upon last year’s momentum, which saw revenues soar nearly 200% in Europe.

It is now fair to say Mouser is a serious “player” in the European market and we continue to add new customers at a strong rate daily with over 75% of them now coming over the web.

Unlike many of the distributors that are trying to cover both high volume and small volume business, we are sticking to our one specialty as the design-fulfillment distributor. As such, we’ve added many new design resources to provide helpful solutions for engineers.

Our Product Knowledge Centre (PKC) training sites provide hands-on knowledge about the latest technologies and applications, covering areas of Medical, Energy, Wireless Mesh Networking and Lighting, to name a few. We will continue to add more sites that help the Engineer design in the newest Technology.

Mouser works very closely with our supplier partners, such as Texas Instruments, Maxim, Osram Opto Semiconductors, NXP Semiconductors, International Rectifier, and Vishay, for example, to showcase their leading-edge products on our product and application PKC training sites.

Our broad line card contains the newest technologies from more than 450 suppliers. We feature these manufacturer’s products online in multiple digital formats, including our mobile-compatible catalog, and in our print catalogues. Engineers have access to value-added services like the extra measures we take to flag products NRND (not recommended for new design), again helping them get their designs to market faster.

From the very outset, we’ve seen this area as being a major catalyst for design development and growth. With the continuing advancement of technology and steady worldwide demand for semiconductors and components, we’re optimistic about what the New Year holds in 2012.
