Altera extended its share of a programmable logic market which grew dramatically last year, according to Ed Lepkowski of L-Mar Associates.
The market, which was stuck in a $3bn niche for most of the previous decade, exploded in 2010 growing to $4.78bn from the $3.38bn of 2009.
Altera increased its market share in 2010 to 40.7% from the 35.3% it held in 2009. Altera's sales for 2010 reached $1.9bn, up from the $1.2bn of 2009.
Xilinx’s market share slipped from the 52.8% of 2009 to 48.3% in 2010. Xilinx's 2010 sales of $2.3bn were up from the $1.8bn of 2009.
Actel also lost market share last year with its percentage of the market dropping from 6% in 2009 to 5% in 2010. Actel’s revenues rose from $190.6m in 2009 to $230.9m in 2010.
Lattice saw a slight increase in market share – going from 2009’s 5.7% to 6.1% in 2010. Lattice’s sales increased from $194.4m in 2009 to $293.8m in 2010.
