dsPIC gets 25% more performance

Microchip has announced 50mips variants of its dsPIC33F line.

Included in the GS series, they offer a 25% performance boost over existing members, and are aimed at digital power supplies.

"The performance increase will allow designers to achieve higher efficiencies in power-supply applications and to control their products using a single dsPIC33F GS," said the firm. "It supports applications such as induction cooking, uninterrupted power supplies, inverters and battery chargers."

Available in 28 to 100pin packages, with 16-64k of flash, the on-chip ADC operates at up to 4Msample/s, and the PWMs provide up to 1ns resolution - with modes for different power-conversion topologies.

Up to four on-chip analogue comparators are provided, with on-chip DACs to set trip levels dynamically.

Chips are compatible with existing dsPIC33F GS devices, and all existing tools and reference designs are supported.
