Luminary Micro Cortex-M3 dev kit supports SafeRTOS

Luminary Micro, the ARM Cortex-M3-based microcontroller supplier, has introduced a development platform for its 4th generation Stellaris devices.

Luminary Micro has also announced a new Stellaris microcontroller featuring the SafeRTOS real-time kernel, developed by Wittenstein High Integrity Systems integrated into on-chip ROM.

The LM3S9B96 microcontroller offers the IEC61508-compliant RTOS kernel at no additional cost, said the company.

SafeRTOS can be used as a general purpose, pre-emptive real-time operating system, and is particularly relevant to applications with high integrity, safety-critical requirements, such as medical and industrial applications.

The Stellaris DK-LM3S9B96 development platform features the LM3S9B96 MCU, which is based on the low-power revision of the ARM Cortex-M3 controller core operating at up to 80MHz, with 256kbyte flash, 96kbyte SRAM, a 32-channel DMA, and 32-bit external peripheral interface.

The LM3S9B96 also has 10/100 Ethernet MAC/PHY, 2 CAN controllers, USB 2.0 Full Speed OTG/Host/Device, 2 SSI / SPI controllers, 2 I2C interfaces, an I2S interface and 3 UARTs.

The development kit includes the development board, all required cables (JTAG, Ethernet, USB, USB OTG-to-Host and USB OTG-to Device cables), four different evaluation tools suites and a StellarisWare Firmware Development Package (including the free StellarisWare Driver Library, Boot Loader, Graphics Library, and USB Library).

Software tools suite choices included in the kit include evaluation versions of ARM RealView Microcontroller Development kit (MDK), IAR Embedded Workbench Kickstart Edition, Code Red Technologies Red Suite, and CodeSourcery Sourcery G++™ GNU tools.

In addition to the ROM-based SafeRTOS included in the LM3S9B96 microcontroller, ported demos of RTOSes include FreeRTOS.org, Micrium µC/OS-II with µC/Probe embedded system monitoring and Express Logic ThreadX.
