US-based communications software firm
Aricent has acquired an
R&D centre in Southwood, UK, from Nokia Siemens Networks with 100 employees specialising in GSM and EDGE.
The deal was announced as part of an R&D collaboration with Nokia Siemens Networks to provide product development, feature enhancement, sustenance and maintenance services for 2G basestation products.
A spokeswoman for Aricent said the firm had taken over just the R&D wing at the Nokia Siemens’ Southwood site, which is near Farnborough. Any money paid was not disclosed.
This will be Aricent’s third European software development centre joining centres in Germany and the Ukraine.
“The UK centre gives Aricent a large development presence in a third European location,” said Manoranjan Mohapatra, president of Aricent.
“The Southwood team will allow us to meet the needs of both Nokia Siemens Networks and other clients in the UK and Western Europe,” continued Mohapatra.
