SiliconBlue, the low-power FPGA specialist, is sampling three new chips in its  Los Angeles family: a 640 logic cell, a 1000 logic cell and a 4000 logic cell device in both low power (LP) and high performance (HX) versions.

“We listened carefully to our customers and are proud to deliver the broadest range devices and package styles supporting their diverse requirements for power/performance/price trade offs,” says Kapil Shankar, CEO of SiliconBlue.

These devices are available in the broadest package styles from 2.5 x 2.5 plastic BGA to 20 x 20 for lowest cost packaging.

Both the LP and HX devices provide support for sensor management, high-speed custom connectivity and the convergence of HD video and imaging.

They are made on TSMC’s low power standard CMOS process.

Addressing mobile products, the LP series is available in six packages  from 0.4mm 2.5x2.5 and 3x3  plastic BGA, up to 7x7mm.

The HX1K and HX4K high-speed versions are designed to address the low-power, low-cost requirements for tablet applications.

These come in CM225, CB132, CT256, VQ100 and TQ144 packages.

Smallest package devices start at under $1 in high volume.

Full production of the 640, 1K, 4K and 8K devices will be announced in December 2011.
