This is a rare opportunity to fully test your skills at the forefront of technology, working on exciting developments such as weapon detection systems and bespoke intruder alarms.

You can expect to be involved in the full lifecycle of projects to develop tailored and unique electronic systems – from design and testing through to manufacture and testing – in a wide range of disciplines such as embedded processors, power systems and RF. Working with specialist departments within the Met and external partners, you’ll be expected to elicit ideas from users and turn these into workable solutions. The role will involve managing a team of engineers and allocating resources to achieve project objectives.

An experienced engineer with a degree, HND or equivalent in electronic or electrical engineering, you’ll need broad technical knowledge that covers any number of the following areas:

• RF solutions and technologies including design and modulation methods
• PIC/embedded programming
• Analogue and digital design
• ASIC/FPGA
• Quality of design for testability reliability and support
• Miniaturisation
• Communication and signalling (ERC and CRC)
• Digital signal processing
• PSU and battery technologies
• Thermal and system modelling including in-service factors
• Manufacturing techniques
• H&S standards and CE approval

Highly self-motivated, you should have strong people, project and budgetary management skills, along with the ability to prepare business cases.

In return, we offer a range of benefits that includes choice of pension scheme, interest-free season ticket loan, generous holidays and access to an active sports and social club.

In the Met, technology helps to deliver quality frontline policing, cuts crime, solves cases and literally saves lives. And in areas ranging from counter-terrorism and intelligence gathering to forensics and network security for 50,000 IT users, we’re constantly embracing the latest advances.
