Alan Hutton of Gennum, who found this little gem, writes: "Being Scottish I was immediately drawn to the William Wallace ale with a real malty taste but not overly loaded with alcohol compared to some of the others beers on offer. With a slight taste of smoky peat coming through it was an enjoyable start to an evening and did somewhat remind me of being back in

This is the on-site blurb:
'Sit in comfortable indoor booths and tables or at picnic tables outside in nice weather. But if you do sit inside, you'll no doubt want to join our regulars who love watching the active onsite brewery through the big interior windows.
Oak Hills Brewpub's "Captain Neon's Fermentation Chamber" features one of the most colorful McMenamins brewery experiences, thanks to the beautifully painted fermentation tanks.'
This is the on-site description of the beers they brew:
Terminator Stout
Black as the darkest night. Rich as the most decadent dessert, Terminator is for the true stout lover. This is a full bodied and flavor packed ale which draws it's robust complexity from kiln-baked specialty grains. Look for a wide array of toasted, chocolate, nutty and coffee-like flavors in every pint! The devoted swear by it, and it remains one of our top selling ales year after year.
Hammerhead
A classic Northwest pale ale and McMenamins top selling beer. This rich chestnut colored gem is a model of harmony between hops and malted barley. Hammerhead's signature Cascade hop nose and intense hopped flavor blend nicely with the caramel tones from the crystal malt. This beer has a vocal following. To run out is an unforgivable sin.
Ruby
In 1985 McMenamins became the first brewery in the
Black Rabbit Porter
Black Rabbit Porter is a semi-sweet ale with a roasty chocolate malt tone. This ale is defined by it's toasted nut flavor and a sweeter, softer finish than Terminator. Named after the elusive Black Rabbit who roams freely on the grounds at the Edgefield Manor, this ale has been an Edgefield staple for years.
Edgefield Wheat
Edgefield Wheat is a classic example of an American wheat ale. Unlike the popular

"The Mermaid in Tokyo (2 min by foot from Akasaka-Mitsuke metro station) is an excellent pub with Guiness, Spitfire, Hoegaarden, Kirin Ichiban and another four on tap, numerous bottled choices as well as a couple of ciders. Food is not especially outstanding but the most important thing is the atmosphere which is like a real pub in the middle of

"Here is a great place to get your football fix - they cover all the major Premiership games and will stay open past 3am if need be!" writes Noel Hurley, "beer is standard fare both continental and local beers. Dick Selwood writes: "A micro-brewery and bar in the heart of the old town of Nuremberg, with six beers, including two Bocks. The best way to try is a sampler, with small galsses of each. (Or large if you prefer.) The kicker is the small glass at the end of the special wooden tray that they bring the glasses on. This will conatin a BierBrand - a double distilled beer with a 40% alcohol content. They do samplers of those for the brave."

Food is mostly authentic German fare, like sausages and sauerkraut, with waitrons donning traditional lederhosen and dirndl dresses. Feast inside on one of the banquet-sized tables, where large copper kettles tower up towards the rafters and pretzels dangle from the ceiling, or enjoy your meal under the stars in the beer garden. Live bands keep things jovial in the evenings

Bushe's Bar
Baltimore
West Cork
Ireland
Our correspondent writes: 'I'd like to kick off the Irish section by recommending a lovely seaside pub in Baltimore, West Cork called Bushe's Bar. It's a cozy, family run pub full of interesting maritime artefacts. I don't have the exact address, but you can't miss it as it's the only proper pub on the waterfront.'
'It's the perfect place to pass a leisurely afternoon chatting with locals and puzzling over the crossword. I only drink Guiness in Ireland, but you can also find other good local brews.'
'Remember that a half pint is called a glass in Ireland, not that you'll probably order one!'

http://www.luckylab.com
The web-site reads: 'Located in an old roofing and sheetmetal warehouse. With high wood trussed ceilings, the Lab's warm rustic ambiance is a great place for a neighborhood pub. Founded in October, 1994, the Lab produces some of the tastiest brews in the North-West and serves up some simple, yet excellent, pub fare. Outside on the back covered patio is a great place to relax and converse with friends or hang out with your canine. We are proud to be a casual brew pub where people can enjoy quality products in an unpretentious atmosphere.'
Our correspondent writes: "For unpretentious read frankly down at heel, but the IPA was very good. I am told by a local ex-pat that the Hawthorne Bitter is pretty close to an English Bitter (it was being served that night - they rotate their beers) and if you read the blurb, they serve their beer in the English way."
