Alan says: "Tegernsee beer is quite possibly one of southern Germany's (Bavaria) best kept secrets. Close enough to Munich, the Tegernsee Brauhaus dates back to a Benedictine Abbey in 746 where the monks indulged in their favourite pastime of brewing beer and drinking it themselves until 1803 when a royal takeover opened the doors for local Bavarians to sample their wares. "

"The cavernous beer hall is usually full and vibrant with local conversation and the food although limited in choice is reasonably priced", adds Alan, "if you like crispy roasted pork knuckle or roasted "Bierbratl" (pork belly) straight from the oven with a potato and cucumber salad then this is the place to be drinking great beer. Rarely seen outside of the Bavaria region and never exported outside of Germany this is one jewel in the crown of small breweries in southern Germany."
