This is another find by Alan Hutton who has an amazing talent for locating good beer in exotic places.

Alan writes:

"The Seasons Craft Brewery can be found in the neighbourhood of Anchieta, Port Alegre in Brazil. The brewery was just recently established in 2010 with the aim to not only create original beers but also spread a new beer culture in Brazil by way of joint projects with a community of home brewers to essentially "start a revolution and drink better craft beer" which is their motto today."

"Today, they have three signature beers on tap; namely, the "Green Cow" which was their first American IPA is very bitter, tastes full of hops and get's it's name from "cows that are very important to the manufacturing process since the crushed malt (organic waste) is a favorite food of cows" as quoted by Seasons Craft. The "Funhouse" is a Belgian blond beer and get's it's name from circuses and amusement parks where you amuse and amaze visitors !"

"The one I tried," continues Alan, "had hints of orange and coriander so it's was certainly fun but had a rather strange after taste which could either be attributed to the fruit and veg ingredients or the type of yeast used which comes from Belgian Trappist monks. Lastly, the "Cirilo" looks just like a Guinness but is classed as a coffee stout and they are very much on the mark with this one since the predominant flavor and aroma is just coffee with a typical bitterness and only balanced with the essence of vanilla and herbal flavours on the back of American "alpha" hops and roasted barley. As they say, the perfect excuse to replace coffee in the morning."

"They have a number of other lesser drunk beers such as the Wallace Amber, the BigFoot Russian Imperial Stout and the Harvest Ale all of which I never tried but are allegedly very good too."

"Overall, an interesting little start-up microbrewery with ambitious plans to expand their range over the next few years," says Alan, "maybe we can expect to see the Pele Pilsner appear with a "special kick to thrill you" - who knows with this crowd. "

Thanks to Alan Hutton for this one.

Alan writes:"On entering a restaurant in Sao Paulo the other week, I spotted a glass of Guinness being poured from a bottle at the bar. Having a thirst, I decided to ask for one too ! However, to my surprise it was no Guinness but a bottle of Xingu beer from Brazil. Xingu beer (pronounced "shin-goo") looks very like Guinness or even a Sweetheart Stout but it's certainly not after one sip ! It's a very dark brown colour, almost black and when poured has a small tanny foam that quickly receeds. The smell is a bit of hops mixed in with a plum aroma for good measure. A slight aftertaste of licorice is also present. It is relatively light bodied and not too fizzy either so easy to drink a few while watching the sun go down over the ocean in Rio de Janeiro's beachfront. Since Brazil microbreweries are all but bought up by the big brewing conglomerates these days (AmBev, Grupo Schincariol, Petropolis and Heineken), Xingu still stands out as a quality microbrew beer and get's it's name after a river in the Amazon rainforest. Nowadays, Xingu is exported to the US, Australia and the UK."

Alan adds: "The place to be and to find Xingu is in Bar 121 inside the Sheraton Rio Hotel (Avenida Niemeyer 121, Leblon, Rio de Janeiro) sitting with the view over the ocean."

However you can save yourself the price of a plane fare to Rio and about 24 hours of travelling time by buying Xingu from Tesco's.
