Fox, CBS, NBC, Viacom combine to crack nut

News Corp's Fox TV and movie studios are apparently talking to the GE subsidiary NBC Universal, the movie studio and TV company CBS, and the entertainemnt giant Viacom about putting their multi-hundred-billion dollar muscle behind a home movie-clip hosting site.

Sledge-hammers and nuts spring to mind. Just how many multi-hundred-billion dollar companies does it take to set up a video-clip hosting operation?

At least four it seems with the news that, among others, News Corp's Fox, Viacom, CBS and NBC Universal are talking about setting up a competitor to You Tube.

It’s a bit like four venerable billionaires getting together to set up a candy corner shop.

And it’s come a little late.

Other ideas they might consider are competitors to Hotmail, Ebay, Skype and Flickr.
