Apple iPhone Just The First Touch For Quantum Research

Good news for Quantum Research of Southampton, is that Apple could be wanting even more of QR's touch sensor technology, if an influential industry analyst is to be believed.

That's the message from UBS analyst Benjamin Reitzes. Reitzes says the Apple touch-screen is just the beginning of a multi-year, multi-product strategy for Apple in which most of its product line will be equipped with touch sensor technology.

"We believe the multi-touch platform, initially to be shown in the upcoming iPhone, can be integrated into several products, including Macs and iPods, facilitated by Apple's software and retail ecosystem," says Reitzes, "we believe this 'mega-platform' could help Apple become an open-ended growth story again, with a logical chronology."

Quantum Research has a lawsuit going with Apple over the charge transfer capacitive sensing technology used in the Apple iPod click wheel.

Earlier this year, QR expressed an opinion that the touch controls on the iPhone could be using QR's technology.

Since QR invented the technology, and has all the patents on it, the position for QR could be good if Apple concedes that it needs QR's technology.

Settlement discussions on the patent infringement lawsuit between Apple and QR are underway, but QR founder and CEO Hal Philipp, says he believes the case will go before a court later this year.

QR is currently selling chips to Apple which it uses in its products.
