Home Automation Is Baloney

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

The home automation people seem to have missed what is absolutely obvious to everyone who lives in a home: that every piece of kit in it has a different plug, socket, and wireless interface.

Obviously the only way to connect them is to produce a box with every plug every socket every wireless interface, and make it so that each plug/socket/interface can be routed to every other plug/socket/interface, and it has software which will automatically perform the routing as and when required, and which can convert the signals betwen types and frequencies and standards.

Will anyone produce such a box? No way.

So home automation is baloney.

For the time being anyway.

Home Automation is the key of every household in the world, just imagine the number of things that you can connect to it, and how it can minimize the things to be done around the house.

Agreed.
But how do you connect every box and every gadget to every other box and gadget?
There are so many different sockets, so many different types of connectivity.
Will it ever be feasibleto connect them all up? And if so, how?
