World Leader

I notice that Intel has adopted the habit of putting at the bottom of every press announcement the words: 'Intel, the world leader in silicon innovation'.

This seems a bit sad. It's a bit like George W Bush or T Blair describing themselves as: "The world's leading statesman".

If you want to have this sort of claim made about yourself, it's best not to say it yourself. Everyone just thinks it's pathetic and a bit desperate.

Intel was undoubtedly the world leader in silicon innovation. When it brought out the 1103 and the 4004 and the 2702 and the 28F256, it could justifiably claim that.

But then, of course, it didn't have to. Everyone knew.
