Saving 50 Cents The Bill Gates Way

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

The funniest of all the Bill Gates stories is told by Robert Cringely in his book Accidental Empires. It happened in 1990.

It was midnight in a Seattle convenience store, and Gates had bought a carton of butter pecan ice cream and was waiting in line to pay.

When it was his turn to pay, he put some money on the counter, then started rummaging through his pockets.

“I’ve got a 50 cents-off coupon here somewhere”, said Gates searching his pockets.

The customers in line behind him fumed while this performance went on.

Eventually, the next in line customer behind Gates chucked a couple of quarters onto the counter, saying: “Here”.

Gates took the money.

In 1990, Gates was worth $3 billion.
