Laugh At Italians, Not Poles

Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, tells a hilarious story in his book, iWoz.

In his pre-Apple days, Wozniak, an ethnic Pole, set up an automated Dial-A-Joke service in California where people could phone in and hear Polish jokes.

The service was successful, receiving up to two thousand calls a day..

Then Wozniak got complaints from the Polish American Congress saying that the jokes defamed people of Polish descent.

“I asked them”, recalls Wozniak, “if they would mind if I switched to Italian jokes”,

“They said that would be fine.”

Twenty years later the Polish American Congress gave Wozniak its Heritage Award – its highest award for achievements by a Polish-American.
