Price Is The UK iPhone Killer

Anecdotal evidence from my local Carphone Warehouse suggests that UK iPhone sales have been stifled by the price.

“If it was a bit cheaper we’d sell a lot more”, says the Carphone Warehouse saleslady.

As I was in the store, a guy comes in:

“Is this the phone everyone’s been queuing for”, he asks.

“Yes”, says the saleslady.

“What’s the price?

“£269”

“On pay-as-go?”

“No, on contract”, replies the lady pointing the board which shows the £35, £45 and £55 monthly tariff.

“No thanks”, says the guy.

“Same for me”, I say.

“Same for me too”, says the saleslady, “but wait six months, the price will be lower then.”

Just to see if Carphone Warehouse are saying anything about sales figures, I phone their press office.

“We’ve been told nothing at all”, replies the press contact, “they don’t give out any sales figures.”

Would they be saying that if the launch had been a success?

I don’t think so.
