The Woman Who Wouldn't

Well it’s Monday morning again and, if you want something to make the world seem a better place, read Gene Wilder’s new novel: ‘The Woman Who Wouldn’t’.

Last year I was lucky enough to stumble across the famous American film director and actor's first novel 'My French Whore' and wrote on this site how amazing it was that a man who'd spent most of his life in Hollywood could concoct a yarn of such innocent charm.

When I was in America last month I found Wilder's second novel in Warwick's bookshop in La Jolla. It had only been published in March this year. It is a lovely tale. If anything it surpasses My French Whore in its sweetness and generosity of feeling.

If you need to get away from the lies, grot and greed of modern life, read The Woman Who Wouldn't. It makes you feel good to be human.
