Merci M. Thomas

Have you tried 2007 Sancerres? My first bottle of 2007 Sancerre tasted fabulous. So good that, as soon as we'd had the first sip, we ordered another case.

.

For some years, my favourite Sancerre has been from the vineyard of Paul Thomas of Chavignol. It emerged as the best Sancerre from the regular tastings of Sauvignon Blanc which my neighbours and I endure, for the strictly scientific process of finding the best for the year ahead..

Paul Thomas has always come top of the Sancerres every year, though Cloudy Bay has always come top of the overall Sauvignon Blanc rating.

But this year, it's different. In a drink-off between a 2006 Cloudy Bay and the 2007 Paul Thomas, the two wines appeared practically indistinguishable.

Maybe the Paul Thomas was a bit steelier, a bit drier, maybe the Cloudy Bay a bit softer and tastier, then another sip ,and maybe none of that was true.

Both were Sauvignon at its very, very best.

I wonder: Did M. Thomas have an exceptional personal year last year, or did the Loire as a whole have a great 2007.

Hi David - I am a FAN of sancerre rouge. I will have to try a bottle of his sancerre red.
Per a quick check of the web for a red I came across following:
Sancerre Rouge 2006 Paul Thomas -
From an excellent Sancerre vintage, this juicy, fruity wine shows intense aromas of raspberry and cherry on the nose that develop further on the palate. Soft tannins, crisp yet balanced acidity and masses of ripe red berry flavours give fantastic summer drinking.

However, I could not find any 2007 vintage sancerre reds. I will definitely try the 2006 and keep an eye out for a 2007.

Thanks, Mike C.

It's funny you should say that. When i went to pick up my second case of Paul Thomas it was only when I got it home that I found it was red, shock horror, so I took it back and got some white.

Maybe I should have kept it
