Commuting Asians Don't Want TV-To-The-Handset

Well I've always thought that TV-to-the-handset was a no-go, but the wireless industry has persisted with it, and now it seems even the Asians don't want it.

The Register reports that findings from analysts TMC Media show that, of Koreans with TV-enabled mobile phones, only 1.17 per cent were using their cellphones to watch TV.

Even in the commuting rush-hours, the TV-watching mobile phone users were a mere 3.58 per cent of the total number of enabled users.

Now this is really important because when you asked people in the wireless industry who on earth would want to watch TV on their mobile phones, people would reply: "Young people and commuting Asians."

Then of course, it turned out that young people don't watch TV anymore. They tune into YouTube.

Now we're being told that the last hope of the desperate TV-to-the-handset  proponents -  the commuting Asian - doesn't want it either.

No wonder Qualcomm was able to bag up the UK spectrum allocated to TV-to-the-handset for a paltry £8 million.
