Qualcomm-Nokia: The Winners

There've been some odd comments on the settlement of the Nokia-Qualcomm lawsuit along the lines of who won? This is a weird way to look at a deal which has so many upsides. There are four clear winners:

  1. The wireless industry. Because licensing practice may become more collegiate than confrontational
  2.  Innovation. Because the $400 million being spent collectively by Qualcomm and Nokia every year on lawyers' fees can now be spent developing technology
  3.  Qualcomm. Because it can now sell wireless chips to the largest user of wireless chips
  4.  Nokia. Because it can now sell CDMA hand-sets into the US market.
