Discrete Manufacturing Is Not Dead

"IF THE DISCRETE component manufacturer is dead then we, as a dead company, have only doubled our turn-over' in the last five years."

 

So starts a story in the July 9 1969 edition of Electronics Weekly.

 

With these words Mr A. F. Dyson, engineering director of Erie Electronics (UK) graphically described his and other component manufacturers' positions in an age which is rapidly becoming dominated by the IC, and in which the position of the component manufacturer is becoming increasingly fluid.

This seems true today as well. We are probably back at the point where discrete will be required in areas like automobiles, solid state lighting and power control which is becoming increasingly hybrid in nature.
