'American Microsystems Inc (AMI) who are rated in the USA along with General Instrument as the leading producers of MOS devices, are to enter the European MOS market.'

So starts a story in Electronics Weekly's issue of  July 30th 1969.

'AMI was formed three years ago by a small group of people who had an idea about the possibilities of MOS technology', continues the report, 'like many others they originated from Fairchild and came to AMI via General Microelectronic. Last month, on their third birthday, over 100,000 sq ft of additional factory space was opened at their Santa Clara facility giving them a total area of 140,000 sq ft and enabling them to claim to have the largest single MOS factory in the world.'

'Based on current yields, the capacity of the factory is three million, MOS LSI circuits a month, each circuit containing between 700 and 800 transistors,' concludes the report.
