'General Instrument are now on line with a proven new MOS facility at Glenrothes with a new family of MOS devices shortly to roll off the stocks', starts a story in Electronics Weekly's issue of August 20th 1969.
The story continues: 'One GI executive commented that design engineers are realising that MOS technology offers them "the ability to use their imagination and get it all down on one chip of silicon".'
'GI expect that production will be split 50/50 between their new standard circuits and tailor-made circuits. GI arte to introduce a family embodying their nitriding process and all TTL, DTL compatible. Already approaching 20 of these shift register circuits have been introduced.'
'As a result, by the end of the year, the 26,000 sq ft facility which cost little more than £130,000 will be profitable', continues the report, 'the company aims for production of 1.2m components a year. When capacity is fully utilised production should be running at 5m components a year. By the end of 1971, GI should be opening a new facility.'
