You might dispute RCA's place but it was one of only four companies (the other three being TI, Motorola and GE) which made the transition from being a top ten discrete transistor supplier to becoming a top ten IC supplier. RCA was a top tenner for over 20 years and was also, of course, the great pioneer of CMOS.
