Outage of Idealism: USA Apologises

| 6 Comments | No TrackBacks

Thanks to Doug Dickinson of Linear Tech for this piece which was  published in the US press earlier this month under the headline:  "Service Outage (a note from the USA)" via Rolling Stone : National Affairs Daily by Tim Dickinson on 1/23/09. The article reads:

Dear World,

The United States of America, your quality supplier of ideals of liberty and democracy, would like to apologize for its 2001-2008 service outage.

The technical fault that led to this eight-year service interruption has been located.

Replacement components were ordered Tuesday, November 4th, 2008, and have begun arriving. Early test of the new equipment indicate that it is functioning correctly and we expect it to be fully operational by mid-January.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the outage and we look forward to resuming full service and hopefully even improving it in years to come. Thank you for your patience and understanding,

 The USA

Don't let them fool you - Dickinson, and *especially* Rolling Stone magazine do not speak for MOST of the USA... never have.

Oh, I'm an Obama fan, for sure - I think the change was needed. No argument there. However, the statement, as read, is really a slap at Bush, and some sort of perceived interruption of ideals... it's an opinion, and witty, but to sign the statement "The USA" struck me as arrogant. IMHO :-)

Surely, the definition of democracy is that "MOST" of the USA are in support of Obama. And there has been enough said about the supposed corruption of the American democratic system during the past 2 elections that sheds serious doubt as to whether "MOST" of the USA were EVER in support of Bush in the first place.
