What a star Steve Wozniak is, not only as an engineer but as a human being. In the USA's answer to 'Celebrity Come Dancing' he puts on a charming performance at samba dancing while suffering from a pulled hamstring, then faces the brickbats of a crabby panel of judges with great good humour.

It says a lot for American celebrity culture that they would put an engineer (albiet a bit of a geek) on their dancing show. I could never imagine this happening in the UK where we are only interested in C list actors and presentors, and the odd sportsperson.
Wozniak is much more than an engineer in America, David Kempton, he has a San Jose street named after him - 'Woz Way' - and wrote a brilliant book - 'iWoz' - which I thoroughly recommned. He's a celebrity's celebrity out there. But I agree it is an indictment of the UK that we give honours and TV appearances to actors, sportsmen and entertainers on a much greater scale than we do to engineers. Maybe society is frightened by engineers because they're analytical, logical and tend to speak the truth. Which rarely applies to actors, sportsmen and entertainers.
